Organisation of Competition is one of the ways given by Mediterranean Athletics Union to reach its goals.
Beyond the athletes’ participation of one member to the event of another one, MAU decided to organise its own competition: MAU Championships.
In coherence with international calendar, the choice is to focus on U23 athletes and an event hold every 2 year (even year).
The competition is organized through the IAAF rules and opened to all affiliated Federations. All track athletics events are organised (no road events), except combined events.
This 3 first UMA competition was hold in Aubagne (FRA), Tunis (TUN) and Jesolo (ITA) in June 2014, 2016 and 2018. The edition that was to take place in La Nucia (ESP) in 2020 was postponed and then cancelled due to the health crisis.
The next edition will take place on 10 and 11 September 2022 in Pescara (ITA) .
2019 was also the year of the first U23 indoor Mediterranean Championships, organised in Miramas (FRA), near Marseille, in January. This competition will be organised every 2 years (odd year).
